There are a number of reasons why a player may have made just one Premier League appearance. There are young players who are given a run-out and later released, or newly promoted players sidelined as their club strengthens its squad. Managers will take a punt on random players, or on faded stars who look like a bargain but quickly reveal while why they were so readily available. Then there are players whose career was coming to an end just as the league was beginning.
For this XI we’ve compiled some of the more notable examples of single PL appearance makers. Now, as we write this, the list could technically include players such as Josko Gvardiol, André Onana and Dominik Szoboszlai, but these are firmly in the camp of having one appearance so far. This team covers players very unlikely to grace England’s top flight again.
